There is a specially made product called Mostenbockers Paint Remover available at the home improvement store. There are two formulas, one for latex paint and one for ';grafitti'; or spray paint. It is inexpensive and comes in a handy spray applicator. It won't damage the carpet or change the color. A lot depends on the type of carpet, try a razor or nail scissors to trim it out, if it is water-soluble, it should wash out-I'd use woolite for the soap
